NCT
The National Car Test (NCT) is Ireland’s compulsory vehicle-inspection programme. Its primary aim is to improve road safety and enhance environmental protection by reducing harmful vehicles emissions.
Driving a vehicle that is in any way defective is a serious offence that puts you, your passengers and other road users in danger. It is now a legal requirement for all cars over 4 years of age in Ireland to undergo an NCT test every two years, while vehicles over 10 years of age must be tested every year.
Failure to undergo the NCT is a criminal offence, punishable by a significant fine, additional penalty points on your licence and/or imprisonment.
